The 3 Biggest WSL Transfers From the January Window

WSL Transfer Talk: The Biggest Movers and Shakers From the January Window

With the January window now firmly shut, we’re taking a look at the WSL transfers which have got everyone talking.

Alisha Lehmann: From FC Como to Leicester City Women

Alisha Lehmann is returning to the WSL after signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with Leicester City Women.

The former Aston Villa player has previously spent six years playing in the WSL, and, in an exclusive interview with the Foxes media team, said, “Leicester are an amazing club. I’ve seen the training ground and, of course, the stadium. They want to push women’s football forward.”

Leicester City Women are currently sitting near the bottom of the table (with one game in hand), with just one win in their last 5 matches.

And, having scored only 8 goals in their 9 league games so far this season, they’ll be hoping that experienced winger Lehmann can help them find the back of the net.

Sam Coffey: From Portland Thorns to Manchester City Women

American midfielder Sam Coffey is heading to Manchester on a three-and-a-half-year contract, rumoured to cost around £600,000.

Coffey’s transfer will be felt heavily at the Thorns, a side which she had previously captained and had racked up over 100 appearances for.

The 2024 Paris Olympic gold medallist joins a Manchester City squad which already has one hand on the WSL trophy, and the talented central midfielder will only strengthen their depth.

Denise O’Sullivan: From North Carolina Courage to Liverpool Women FC

Republic of Ireland midfielder Denise O’Sullivan is another player joining the WSL from stateside, as she leaves North Carolina Courage to join Liverpool FC Women after eight-and-a-half years in the National Women’s Soccer League.

With the Reds currently languishing at the bottom of the WSL table, the experience of a rock-solid midfielder like O’Sullivan – who has more than 120 caps for her country – will surely bring some confidence to the struggling squad.
