Brighton have confirmed Arturo Ruiz as their new women’s head coach, following the shock departure of Dario Vidosic just a week before the start of the WSL season.
A Rapid Rise Through Spanish Football
At just 29, Arturo Ruiz has already made a name for himself in Spain.
He held his first managerial role at Atletico Madrid, guiding them to a third-place finish in Liga F and securing qualification for the Women’s Champions League.
A move to Granada CF followed for the 2024-25 season, before Ruiz took over at Real Sociedad in July 2025, where he once again finished third in the league.
He’s Secured a Three-Year Deal at Brighton
Arturo Ruiz has signed a contract with Brighton until 2029 and will join the club once his work permit is finalised.
He now replaces Vidosic, who is believed to be heading to the United States, with NWSL side Angel City reported as the most likely destination.

Brighton’s women’s and girls’ managing director, Zoe Johnson, said Arturo Ruiz “quickly stood out” during the club’s recruitment process.
“He has a proven track record of developing teams and individuals,” she added. “We have confidence in his ability to drive this team forward.”
Arturo Ruiz Will Face a Potentially Challenging Start
Ruiz takes over a squad that reached the Women’s FA Cup final for the first time in the club’s history last season, under Vidosic.
However, he could face a tricky start to the WSL campaign. He arrives just days before Brighton’s season opener at home to Arsenal on Sunday, 6 September.
