Khadija Shaw’s record-breaking hat-trick over Spurs moved Manchester City one step closer to clinching this season’s WSL title – but when is the earliest they could be crowned champions?
There are a few ifs, buts, and permutations, so we pulled out our calculator and crunched the numbers so you don’t have to.
The WSL Title: Manchester City Maths
The WSL season sees each team play 22 games: Man City have played 18 so far, so they have four matches left. That means a maximum of 12 points are still up for grabs.
To clinch the WSL title, City need to hit 54 points, which would make it mathematically impossible for Manchester United, Arsenal, or Chelsea to catch them.
| Team | Max Potential Points | Current Points | Games Played |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manchester City | 58 | 46 | 18 |
| United | 50 | 38 | 18 |
| Chelsea | 49 | 37 | 18 |
| Arsenal | 53 | 35 | 16 |
Right now, they have 46 points, so they need 8 more from their remaining games. That could come from two wins and two draws, or three wins and a loss.
So they could secure the WSL title in three games from now (are you still with us?!).
According to the Manchester City fixture list, that means they could be confirmed as WSL champions on Sunday, 3 May, against close neighbours Liverpool.

Of course, the exact date depends on City’s results and how their competitors fare. All three of Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea could still technically overtake them.
However, that relies on a complete implosion from City. Any viable challenge also requires the chasing trio to be practically punch perfect between now and the season’s close.
But with their strong lead, City could ensure the title is all wrapped up before the last day of the season.
