Manchester City moved one step closer to clinching the 2025/26 WSL title with a derby day victory over their red neighbours.
Vivianne Miedema was once again the star of the show with a two-minute brace in the first half, taking her WSL goal tally into double figures for the season.
A Dominant Display from Manchester City
In a game where Manchester City rarely looked troubled, Miedema opened the scoring after 17 minutes and added a second just two minutes later to give the Sky Blues a strong early lead.
Lauren Hemp was unfortunate not to bag a third before half-time, hitting the crossbar, while Rebecca Knaak also had a goal ruled out for a foul by team-mate Aoba Fujino on United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce.

City barely broke a sweat, and the match was all but over just four minutes into the second half, with Kerstin Casparij finishing at the back post to make it 3-0.
Confident that the three points were in the bag, Andree Jeglertz decided to sub Miedema off at 70 minutes.
She received a standing ovation from the away end, having produced another sterling performance in what has been a remarkable season for the Dutch forward.
City now need just two more wins to confirm the title mathematically.
A United Struggle From Start to Finish
For United, Saturday’s game told a very different story. Marc Skinner’s squad is stretched thin by a demanding fixture schedule, and he could only name two senior outfield players on the bench.
The result leaves United 11 points behind City and at risk of dropping out of the top three, which would cost them European football next season.
Their attention now turns to Wednesday’s Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich, where they must overturn a 3-2 deficit.
