Everything You Need to Know About Vivianne Miedema

Dutch international and Manchester City forward Vivianne Miedema has become a formidable goal-scoring force since signing her first professional contract at just 14 years old.

She made her debut the following year, and the then 15-year-old Vivianne went on to score 10 times in her debut season.

Here are some other cool facts about the footballing superstar.

She is a WSL record-breaker

In November 2025, Vivianne Miedema became the WSL’s all-time top goal scorer as she netted her 90th during City’s 2-1 win over Everton.

She also holds the WSL single-game goal record after scoring six times for Arsenal against Bristol City in 2019, and shares the single-season record of 22 goals with Rachel Daly.

She’s an international goal-scoring machine

It seems that Vivianne Miedema will score goals any time, anywhere, in any game.

She made her senior debut for the Netherlands national team as a teenager and went on to become her country’s all‑time leading scorer – for both women’s and men’s teams – a remarkable achievement given the calibre of Dutch footballing talent.

In 2025, Miedema became the first Dutch player to reach 100 international goals, scoring once again in their Women’s EURO opener against Wales.

Jill Roord, Netherlands and former Arsenal team-mate, once said that Vivianne is: “Unique in women’s football. She’s one of a kind, an absolute killer.

“You see it in men’s football – players who are so cool in front of the goal – but I don’t think anybody else in women’s football has that to her extent.”

She doesn’t celebrate her goals

Maybe it’s because she scores so many of them, but Vivianne Miedema doesn’t celebrate many of her goals.

When asked about the peculiar habit – or lack, thereof – in 2020, she explained, “I don’t really have one particular reason for not celebrating. I would just say that I celebrate more if someone else scores.

“Even running away from your team-mates is something I find disrespectful. I will always celebrate with my teammates because a goal is something you should enjoy together.”

Her first footballing memory isn’t a happy one

As a child prodigy, you could be forgiven for assuming that Vivianne Miedema’s earliest footballing memory would be one of victory – but not quite.

Instead, it was somewhat more painful: “It was the sort of thing I’d practised hundreds of times with my brother on the side of the pitch while we were watching my dad play – but this time it was different.

“As I closed in on goal, the ball was between me and the goalkeeper and then bang: he kicked out two of my teeth!”

She’s a comic book star

Vivianne Miedema is such a heroine in her home country that she is the star of her own comic book series.

The series, titled ‘Vivianne Voetbalt’ (which in Dutch translates literally as, ‘Vivianne plays football’), was created by writer Joke Reijnders.

The books are written in Dutch and aimed at young readers, introducing them to football through a fun, accessible, and easy-to-read comic format which mirrors Vivianne’s super-chilled personality.

Her pet is Insta-famous

Vivianne and her partner, Arsenal star Beth Mead, adopted Myle, the working Cocker Spaniel, in 2023.

The pair regularly update the pooch’s Instagram feed with updates of his time spent with them at training for both club and country.
