Chelsea Favourites to Sign Bunny Shaw After Contract Talks Stall

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw could be wearing a different shade of blue next season as a move to Chelsea looks more and more likely.

The Jamaican-born Manchester City forward – who recently won the Football Writers Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year – looks set to exit on a free transfer as discussions around a new contract stall.

What’s Happening With Bunny Shaw’s Contract?

Chelsea are understood to have made the 29-year-old their priority target this summer, with reports suggesting they are ready to pay Shaw up to £1 million a year.

But City appear to be unhappy with certain elements of the agreement: the key sticking point in negotiations has been contract length, with Chelsea believed to have offered at least one extra year than the Manchester outfit were willing to commit to.

Shaw had previously spoken about how she had hoped to retire at City, but the club’s reluctance to offer a longer deal – particularly given Erling Haaland was handed a 10-year contract in 2025 – is believed to have forced her hand.

Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor has made no secret of her need for a reliable number nine, and when asked about Shaw last week, she didn’t exactly play it cool: “Who wouldn’t have her on their personal wishlist? Someone crazy maybe!”, she said.

Bunny Shaw Will Be a Huge Miss for City

This could be a bitter blow for City – and the club’s fans – who were crowned WSL champions for the first time in a decade just hours before news of Shaw’s likely departure began to emerge.

Bunny Shaw has been their top scorer for four consecutive seasons and is set to claim a third successive WSL Golden Boot, having netted 19 goals in 21 appearances this campaign.
