Sam Kerr has written her name into Chelsea FC history, becoming the club’s all-time top scorer in the Women’s Super League.
The Australian striker’s landmark 64th WSL goal came on Sunday in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, moving her clear of Fran Kirby to claim the top spot.
Sam Kerr Defies the Odds
What makes the record particularly impressive is the circumstances surrounding it.
Kerr suffered an ACL rupture in January 2024 and missed the entire 2024-25 WSL campaign. She only made her comeback in September – away at Aston Villa – and has since managed 15 goals in 11 starts and 16 substitute appearances.
Reflecting on the milestone, Kerr said: “It’s a big achievement for me, something I’m very proud of. To come back from an ACL and still be the top goalscorer for a club like Chelsea – it’s something to be proud of.”

Kerr joined Chelsea in 2019 and has since won five consecutive WSL titles under former boss Emma Hayes.
A two-time WSL Golden Boot winner – scooping the award in 2020-21 and 2021-22 – she is also just three goals behind Kirby as Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer across all competitions.
And, with one league game remaining and the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on the horizon, there’s every chance Sam Kerr might overtake Kirby in that table too, before the season is over.
