When Alisha Lehmann signed for Leicester City in January 2026, it sparked a media frenzy.
The world’s most famous women’s footballer – with over 16 million Instagram followers – was back in England, and the coverage was predictably enormous. But how has she fared on the pitch since?
Alisha Lehmann’s WSL return: The Verdict
The honest answer is that Lehmann’s WSL return probably hasn’t lived up to the hype.
Joining Leicester mid-season from FC Como, she made 10 appearances for the Foxes, starting just five of them.

And she managed just one goal: a strike against her former club Aston Villa in a 2-1 defeat in March. One goal in 501 minutes of football is surely not the return she, or Leicester fans, were hoping for.
Was Alisha Lehmann’s WSL Season Doomed From the Start?
To be fair to Lehmann, she walked into an extremely difficult situation at her new club.
Leicester finished bottom of the WSL on just nine points, winning only twice all season and losing 17 of their 22 games.
They now face a relegation play-off against Charlton Athletic: a challenging environment in which any player would struggle to thrive.
There were glimpses of quality, and she did win Leicester’s player of the season award – which speaks volumes about her effort and attitude, given she joined the club well into the season.
But on pure output and data, it’s hard to rate her return as anything other than a disappointment.
