Just two weeks ago, it looked like Khadija Shaw would be swapping the light blue of Manchester City for the dark blue of Chelsea.
But after a surprise U-turn that has shocked the sport, she’s not just agreed to stay at City – she’s done so on record-breaking terms.
What’s the Latest with Khadija Shaw’s Contract?
After a couple of weeks of to-ing and fro-ing, the saga came to a head at City’s end-of-season celebrations at Co-op Live on Monday, where Shaw was asked to address the “elephant in the room” in front of 19,000 fans.

Looking a little sheepish, she announced she had signed a new four-year contract keeping her at the club until 2030.
It’s understood the deal was agreed in the 24 hours before the event – and that the wage package will make her the highest-paid women’s football player in the world.
Keeping Khadija Shaw is a Big Deal For City
Khadija Shaw is arguably the most dominant striker in WSL history.
This season alone, she scored 21 goals in 22 league games, claiming a third successive Golden Boot and becoming the first player ever to surpass 20 WSL goals in three separate campaigns.
She’s also City’s all-time record goalscorer, with 117 goals in 137 appearances since joining in 2021.
Manchester City Director of Football Therese Sjogran said: “We’re delighted that [Khadija Shaw] has agreed to another four years at Manchester City.
“She has become a real leader in the team, and I’m sure she’ll be a driving force on our return to UEFA Champions League football next season and our push to retain the WSL title.
“It’s a huge statement from City that we’ve secured the services of one of the best centre-forwards in the world”.
