Denise O’Sullivan has left Liverpool after just six months at the club, joining New York-based side Gotham FC on an initial one-year loan with an obligation to buy.
The Republic of Ireland midfielder had only arrived in Merseyside in January for a club-record £300,000 fee.
The End of a Short Yet Productive Spell at Liverpool
During her time at Liverpool, Denise O’Sullivan made 13 appearances in all competitions, including 9 in the league, and helped Gareth Taylor’s side reach the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals.
Her departure is described as a personal decision, with Liverpool reportedly set to receive a large fee in return, but her presence will certainly be missed on Merseyside.
Speaking on her move to Gotham FC, O’Sullivan said: “This club has established itself as one of the top teams in the world with an incredible culture and ambition to compete for every trophy.
“I can’t wait to meet my teammates, get to work and do everything I can to help this club continue its success.”
Denise O’Sullivan is Already a Proven Performer in the USA
O’Sullivan is no stranger to the NWSL, and now returns having previously spent 10 seasons in the league across spells at Houston Dash and North Carolina Courage.
Her time at the latter was particularly successful: she became the club’s all-time leader in appearances, starts, and minutes played, helping them win NWSL championships in 2018 and 2019, as well as three consecutive NWSL Shields between 2017 and 2019.
She also won the NWSL Challenge Cup in both 2022 and 2023, and was named to the NWSL Best XI Second Team in 2023.
O’Sullivan Also Has Excellent International Pedigree
On the international stage, Denise O’Sullivan has earned more than 100 caps for the Republic of Ireland and played a key role in helping her country reach their first-ever World Cup in 2023.
