Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City Progress into Women’s FA Cup Quarter-Finals

Women’s FA Cup holders Chelsea are still on track to retain the trophy after beating Manchester United this weekend to head into the quarter-finals.

They’ll be joined by Arsenal and Chelsea, who were victorious over Bristol City and Sheffield United in a series of cup weekend ties that largely went to the form book.

Chelsea nudge out Manchester United in extra time

Chelsea booked their place in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 extra-time win over Manchester United on Sunday at Kingsmeadow.

After a tight first half, Sam Kerr put Chelsea ahead in the 78th minute, but United hit back quickly when substitute Simi Awujo levelled just three minutes later. 

With the sides locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes, the game headed to extra time. Naomi Girma proved the difference, scoring in the 99th minute to send Chelsea through.

Little, Pelova, and Maanum on target for Arsenal

Meanwhile, Arsenal breezed into the next round with a 3-0 victory over Bristol City Women.

Kim Little opened the scoring in the 25th minute to put Arsenal in control before Victoria Pelova doubled the lead just after the hour mark. Frida Maanum then wrapped up the win with a third in the 70th minute.

An early brace for Lauren Hemp puts City in control 

Manchester City Women barely looked troubled in their convincing 4-0 win over Sheffield United.

Lauren Hemp struck twice inside the opening 11 minutes to give City a flying start, before Aoba Fujino added a third in the 21st minute. With the tie already in hand, substitute Laura Coombs completed the scoring deep into stoppage time to cap a dominant display.

Women’s FA Cup quarter-final draw

All three sides will now head into the Women’s FA Cup quarter-finals, which will be contested on the 4th and 5th of April.

The scheduled ties are:

  • Charlton Athletic vs. Liverpool
  • Chelsea vs. Tottenham Hotspur
  • Arsenal vs. Brighton & Hove Albion
  • Birmingham City vs. Manchester City
