Patri Guijarro was recently confirmed as Barça Femení’s new first team captain, taking over the armband from Alexia Putellas.

1) Patri Guijarro Was a La Masia Pioneer
Born in Palma de Mallorca on 17 May 1998, Patri Guijarro signed for Barcelona in 2015 from Collerense at the age of 17.
She became the first woman to complete her schooling at La Masia, the club’s famous academy.
2) She’s Covered for Barcelona Legends at the Highest Level
Patri Guijarro usually plays as a holding midfielder, controlling the base of Barça’s midfield. But she’s stepped outside that role to cover for teammates in Champions League finals, demonstrating her versatility and her commitment to being a true team player.
In 2021, she filled in at centre-back for the suspended Andrea Pereira in Barça’s first European title win.
Then, in 2023, she stepped in as attacking midfielder for the injured Alexia Putellas, scoring twice in a stunning comeback to beat Wolfsburg 3-2 and subsequently winning player of the match.
3) Her Trophy Cabinet is Stacked
Patri Guijarro has won seven Liga F titles, eight Copa de la Reina trophies, six Spanish Super Cups and four Champions League crowns with Barcelona.
She’s also the first player to win the Joan Gamper Trophy’s Star Player award twice, most recently in her first game as captain, when she provided two assists in a 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
4) She’s Known as Barcelona’s “Unsung Hero”
Despite her trophy haul, Patri Guijarro is often described as an unsung Barcelona hero, quietly recognised for her ability to set the tempo from the base of midfield rather than for goals or assists.
However, she’s perfectly content with that.
“I am very flattered,” she said, on being classed as an unsung hero.
“I’ve always said that I feel very valued by players, by staff. And for me, that’s the ultimate. Moreover, they also transmit it to you. It is a reason to be happy because that means that I help them – that I contribute positive things within the team, which is what I want. It is a great compliment.”
5) She’s Appeared Twice in the Ballon d’Or Top Ten
Patri Guijarro finished eighth in Ballon d’Or voting for 2023, before climbing to sixth place at the 2025 ceremony, with 157 points, putting her ahead of teammates Claudia Pina and Ewa Pajor.
