Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the signing of defender Gabby George from Manchester United, subject to the usual registration processes.
The transfer – for an undisclosed fee believed to be in six figures – will undoubtedly bolster Dario Vidosic’s back line ahead of the new WSL season, which kicks off in just a few weeks.
Here’s everything you need to know about Brighton’s latest star signing.
1) She’s a Homegrown English Talent
Gabby George was born in Manchester and came through Blackpool’s girls’ setup before spending time in Manchester United’s Centre of Excellence as a youngster – long before she went on to play for the club as a senior player.
2) Gabby George Made Her Name at Everton
George began her senior career at Everton in 2014, debuting at just 17.
Over nine years at the club, she made 126 appearances and scored seven goals, helping the Toffees win promotion in 2017 and becoming their first-ever full-time professional player.
3) She’s a “Lifelong Red”
Having spent time at Manchester United’s academy in her youth and describing herself as a “lifelong Red,” Gabby George rejoined the club in September 2023.
She went on to make 54 appearances across three years, including playing a role in the squad that won the Women’s FA Cup in 2024.
4) She’s a Senior England International
Gabby George has represented England at every youth level from the U17s to the U23s.
She made her senior Lionesses debut in 2018 and has three caps to her name, with her most recent appearance coming in a friendly against Switzerland in December 2024.
5) Gabby George Joins an Ambitious Rebuild on the South Coast
George is one of several new additions at Brighton this summer, alongside Switzerland captain Lia Wälti and midfielder Emilie Joramo.
Head coach Vidosic has praised her versatility and leadership, explaining:
“[Gabby’s] versatility in defence gives us fantastic options, and her technical quality on the ball will help elevate how we want to play.
“She understands what it takes to perform at the highest level in this league week in, week out, and her leadership both on and off the pitch will strengthen our group tremendously.
“We have big ambitions for the season ahead and adding a player of Gabby’s calibre and character is a massive step forward for us.”
George will be hoping to push Brighton to an improvement on last season’s seventh-place finish. They open their campaign at home to Arsenal on Sunday, 6 September.
