In the strong match that happened between Chelsea and Leicester on Sunday, Chelsea had their first goals from Nathalie Bjorn and Catarina Macario, while Mayra Ramirez and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd scored to keep the Blues at the top of the WSL table.
The match was a tight one with neither of the parties having a single goal until it was about seven minutes to the end of the first half when Nathalie Bjorn had the first goal.
Before they eventually got the first goal, they had missed several corners. However, Leicester City just couldn’t deal with that particular corner.
Leicester had been causing Chelsea issues at the beginning of the match, but all of their hard work was undone in the 38th minute. Willie Kirk’s team had lots of chances to clear their lines from a corner, but as the ball bounced about the penalty area, Bjorn hooked it over Kop and defender Green to hit the far corner.
With the goals in the first half from Nathalie Bjorn (38 minutes) and Mayra Ramirez (44 minutes), the Blues were in full control of the game.
Mayra Ramirez took charge of her first Chelsea goal by showing strength, pace, and composure. She rounded Kop and found the empty net with a calm finish to put Chelsea in full control.
During the second half, Leicester maintained an attacking edge, largely on the counter, but Emma Hayes’ side almost sealed the win with a deflected shot from Rytting Kaneryd with a third goal.
It was interesting that Macario also made her long-awaited debut after she recovered from a serious injury before the end of the game. However, the fact that she scored Chelsea’s last goal made it more interesting.
