Chelsea Captain Millie Bright Joins WSL 200 Club

Chelsea captain Millie Bright has hit another major career milestone – becoming just the second player in history to make over 200 Women’s Super League appearances.

The 31-year-old joined the prestigious 200 Club during Chelsea’s 4-0 home win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday, April 23.

Bright is now just seven appearances behind Aston Villa midfielder and record-holder Jordan Nobbs, who has featured in every edition of the WSL since its inception in 2010.

Bright played 68 minutes for the Blues as they dominated their London rivals at Kingsmeadow midweek. The emphatic win moves Chelsea six points clear at the top of the WSL with 19 games played.

The England international is on track to claim her sixth consecutive league title – a feat that would extend Chelsea’s all-time record to eight.

Millie Bright: Joining the 200 Club

Millie Bright made her WSL debut for Doncaster Belles in 2011. Since joining Chelsea in 2014, she has cemented her status as a club legend and a cornerstone of the England national team.

Speaking to BBC Three, Bright said: “I had no idea until Tuesday when I was told, so I was like, ‘OK.’ I don’t do the individual stats – I’m more focused on team performances and wins. It’s a massive achievement and I’m really proud.

“If I look back to those Doncaster days, when things were tough and we took some heavy losses, I learned a lot. I think it kept me grounded as a player and as a person.

“I’ve learned so much about the league, and it’s been amazing to witness its journey – from where we started to where we are now.

“The growth I’ve experienced as a player is a credit to all the managers I’ve worked under – and there’s still more to come, which is exciting.”

Millie Bright and Chelsea next welcome Spanish giants Barcelona to London on Sunday for the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final.

After that, their focus returns to the WSL title race, with a crucial clash against third-placed Manchester United on Wednesday, April 30.
