Sofie Lundgaard has completed a permanent transfer from Liverpool to Eintracht Frankfurt for an undisclosed fee, signing a contract until 30 June 2029.
Sofie Lundgaard Will Be Hoping to Put Her Injuries Behind Her
Sofie Lundgaard joined Liverpool in January 2023 and made 42 appearances across three and a half years at the club, 29 of which came in the WSL.
Her time at Liverpool was disrupted by two serious ligament injuries and a more recent ankle injury, limiting her to just 11 appearances over the past two seasons.
Sofie Lundgaard’s Route to Frankfurt
Sofie Lundgaard began her career at Danish club Aalborg BK – making her professional debut aged 16 in 2018 – before moving to Fortuna Hjørring six months later.
She went on to make 100 competitive appearances for Hjørring, winning two Danish Cups and a league title.
She now joins head coach Niko Arnautis and new teammates including Laura Freigang and Sara Doorsoun at Eintracht Frankfurt, where she’ll wear the number six shirt.
Lundgaard also has 38 caps for the Danish youth national teams, scoring 13 goals.
An Exciting New Chapter Awaits
Frankfurt’s Sporting director Babett Peter said: “As a club, we have followed Sofie and her career for a very long time… Sofie can be used flexibly in midfield, can play both the defensive part on the six, but also a little more offensively on the eight.”
Sofie Lundgaard said: “Frankfurt is an incredibly exciting club with great ambitions. That suits me and my goals very well. I’ve only heard good things about the club, and it’s an advantage, especially at the beginning, that many Scandinavians are already playing here.
“I’ve had a few setbacks recently due to injuries, but I’m feeling very good at the moment, and I’m ready to give 100 per cent. I’m very happy to be part of Eintracht now and can’t wait to get started.”
